What We Do...
Phi Gamma Nu is made up of three pillars.  Professional Development, Philanthropy, and Social.  Each pillar brings a unique aspect to the fraternity.  As chapter members, we participate in the a variety of events that are framed around these three pillars.  Each event helps us grow closer together as a chapter as well as grow as students at Penn State University. With events ranging from resume workshops to helping with Big Brother Big Sister there is no lack in the diversity of projects that chapter members have the opportunity to participate in.

Phi Gamma Nu has become more than just a group of students advancing professionally.  Many of our chapter members consider Phi Gamma Nu a family away from home.  The friendships that exist within the core of Phi Gamma Nu are what helps to make the fraternity so special.  After exploring this website we hope that you are able to see another side of our business fraternity.  The friendships that we make and the projects we undertake continue to mold us into the leaders of tomorrow.

Philanthropy
Each semester the members of Phi Gamma Nu work together to give something back to the communities that we live in.  As one of Phi Gamma Nu’s three pillars, philanthropy remains an important part of our fraternity’s identity.  This semester we have seen extraordinary amounts of participation from all chapter members in each of the events that have been held by Phi Gamma Nu.

Early this semester the fraternity sponsored a blood drive for the American Red Cross in which our organization brought in the most units of all the sponsors of the Martin Luther King Jr. blood drive.  Our next event held was Baking for the Homeless where together we baked Valentine’s Day treats for people in the community who are in-between housing.  Our third event was a trip to Greenhills Village Retirement Home where we were able to play bingo and provide musical entertainment for the elderly.

Our semester will continue with a project we like to call Color Care where we will distribute homemade coloring books to children in the community.  In April, we will be having a holiday party with Big Brother Big Sister in which we will provide the children with arts and crafts activities in the spirit of Easter.  We hope to wrap up a very eventful and successful semester with a canned food drive to help meet the rising demand and need for food throughout the community.

We have had so much fun so far and are looking forward to working as a brotherhood to accomplish even bigger and better things for the community we live in. It has truly been a fulfilling and rewarding experience and we are proud to be a part of this organization.

Thon

Penn State Dance Marathon (THON) is the largest student run philanthropy in the world. For the past 36 years Penn State students have raised over $59 million for pediatric cancer through the Four Diamonds Fund, raising $7.5 million alone this year. The Four Diamonds Fund provides financial and emotional support to families battling pediatric cancer at the Penn State Children’s Hospital in Hershey, Pennsylvania. THON is a 46 hour no sitting, no sleeping event. Phi Gamma Nu is represented by 6 dancers on the floor for the entire 46 hours, while the rest of the organization supports them both from the stands and on the floor. Phi Gamma Nu has been has been a loyal participant of THON for close to 20 years now and raised our record high total of $71,000 this past THON.

A big part of THON is the relationship that organizations build with the Four Diamonds Family. Sponsoring a family allows us to provide not only financial support through THON, but emotional support to those in need. Our organization has the privilege of supporting 3 families. We’ve had a long standing relationship with our first family the Akrights as well as our other family, the Millers. This year we were fortunate enough to adopt a new family, the Wagners. Their son, Gavin, unfortunately passed away this year but we are still forming a relationship with them and even plan on seeing them again this semester to further our bond.

Phi Gamma Nu’s commitment to THON represents just one of the many things we strive for as an organization. We take a lot of pride in our role in THON as financial supporters, but most importantly our relationships with our families. We thank all of the parents who have donated and supported our fight for a cure!

Thank you,

Professional Development
One of the three pillars of Phi Gamma Nu is Professional Development. This is an extremely important part of Phi Gamma Nu because we go to college to broaden our knowledge base and get a job. Phi Gamma Nu Professional Development plays an important role in helping its brothers prepare for and obtain jobs. Through the use of resume and interview workshops along with many other events, the brothers of Phi Gamma Nu are able to have a great advantage from the rest of the Penn State students.

This semester we have brought in a company to talk about its environmental stability efforts along with how the company is doing in these tough economic times. With the help of one of our alumni we were able to take a trip to a Wal-Mart distribution center where we learned about Wal-Mart’s entire supply chain. The brothers have also had a chance in this semester or in a past semester to participate in an etiquette dinner to learn how to eat proper in the business world. This semester we have also had a presentation about the current economy and how we got here along with a presentation in the trading room to learn about the markets and how they work. Phi Gamma Nu was able to pair up with another business fraternity to run informational events with KPMG and bring in a real estate professor to talk about home ownership and investment.

For the rest of the semester we hope to plan more professional development events that hopefully include a golf outing. The events that Phi Gamma Nu puts on are very educational. However some of the most value comes with the vast amount of internships and jobs are alumni hold. Looking at the amount of internships that the brothers of Phi Gamma Nu obtain, it is clear that it far exceeds the average amount of students that obtain the internships without the peer support that comes with Phi Gamma Nu. Phi Gamma Nu Professional Development's pillar allows the brothers to succeed in their education outside the classroom, this is what separates a brother from just a student at Penn State.

Social
We, the four social chairs, are committed to planning and organizing social events that will further the bond and brotherhood between every single member of Phi Gamma Nu.

We have planned events such as snow tubing and broomball, which has allowed us to spend more time with one another. Blue and White weekend we will tailgating by the stadium and watching the game together as well. This is also a great opportunity for us to meet and connect with our alumni that usually return for the game. As the weather becomes nicer, we will be spending more time on the hub lawn playing frisbee, throwing a football, kicking a soccer, tanning or even having a picnic to take advantage of the rare nice weather in State College.

Penn State's volleyball and basketball team are having a strong year. We would attend several sporting games together and enjoy in the Penn State glory.

At the end of the semester, we have our biannual formal. It is a chance for us all to dress up have dinner and dance to some tunes. It is a nice way to culminate the end our semester before we all leave for break.
